*shunter drew the outside and the circle of scales, covered it except a circular opening with only the 3 cm scales showing. It took me a month to get past my fear and start drawing! It's really difficult to get the text looking easy to read with all that maths stuff ...  I drew a rectangle about 24.6 x 34.7 cm giving an area of about 853.62 cm2. Half this area is 426.81 cm2. Then using the area of a circle, Pi x r2 ... 426.81= Pi x r2 r2=426.81/Pi = 135.86 r=SQRoot(135.86) r=11.7 cm (approximately) Giving a circle about half the area of the original rectangle! |
