This past weekend My boyfriend and I went to Oregon to stay with his mother. The main purpose was that she wanted me to fix her computer...

I spent hours trying to teach her how to organize her folders and understand the functioning of the computer in general. I think she got it, and I put instructions in notepad, as well as on paper, for her if she forgot anything. I had her do the steps again the next day to see if it soaked in. Nothing.

When I first met her, the first words that came from her was "I wished my son (who is an atheist) would have found a wife from within the church" I had to clarify that I was in fact not his wife and we had only been together a few weeks.

There was a dinner at her house when she still lived close by. It was clear that she hated me as she never offered me any thing at the table and asked other people to get things for me, however she waited on her son hand and foot. I had often thought she was in love with him, in a sexual way... She was always touching him and putting her hand on his leg. The photos she took of us together either cut me in half or were dark. showing that he was the center of her attention. She didn't expect us to last, so she treated me with the intent to get me out of the picture.

Over the next few years she called me every week asking me to go to church or to take jesus into my heart. She was one persistent proselytizer! At first I asked her to please not bring up her faith as i do not believe as she does. I told her i respect her beliefs and hope it was mutual. She refused to let up so I started hanging up when I heard her voice. One extremely pushy attempt on the phone came at a really bad time for me. I guess it was the last straw. i told her that if we were physically present and she tried to preach to me, or convince me to adopt her beliefs, i would punch her in the face as hard as I could and ask if she would turn the other cheek.

Almost one full year of non-communication..it was bliss.

Over time our conversations in person or on the phone had been civil and non-religious. I finally thought she had gained some respect for me and maybe even liked me. I brought her some veggies from our garden and also a very nice bottle of lotion that smells amazing.

My boyfriend had tried hard as well to get her to stop badgering me and accept the fact that he loved me. So I felt some safety in coming up to help her with the computer. Both computers were riddled with viruses and one of them had some structurally fatal loss of functioning. She let anyone come and use the computer. There was no taskbar, and when I went to the control panel icons the taskbar was dead. It was not the only thing either. the icon for "my computer" was on the desktop as well as other things missing completely. I told her that someone had to have physically deleted these things. She said no one she knew would do that to her computer and blamed me for the errors.

I stopped working with her computer.
